Dr Jorge Rodrigues

Jorge Rodrigues, WiMAX Program Manager at Portugal Telecom is leading the effort to integrate WiMAX solutions into PT business strategy, which includes leading a WiMAX task force from fixed, mobile and wifi operators of PT Group and also a consultant role for PT International Investments. Dr. Rodrigues has more than 20 years of experience in the telecommunications industry, of which 15 years spent on management and technical positions within PT Group, including strategic network evolution and corporate networks, namely IP-VPN services. He was also co-founder and Operations Director of the VSAT based enterprise network and services Business Unit of Marconi, Lisbon, Portugal, where his leading role spanned business strategy development and business planning, operational launch, customer acquisition, services expansion, network planning and operational management. Prior to that, he was also with Siemens AG, Munich, Germany, leading the development of passive optical components for communication networks. This assignment was the last in a whole cycle of fibre optics technology development, from R&D to production and from academia to a global telecom vendor, spanning almost a decade in the UK and Germany, allowing the immersion in different business cultures.
He holds a Ph.D. in Electrical & Electronic Engineering from the University of Birmingham, U.K. on Fibre Optics and a M.Sc. in Telecom Systems from the University of Essex, U.K.
