Pre-conference workshop

14:00 - 18:00   Coexistence of WiMAX With Other Systems in the 2.5 GHz Band

The objective of this workshop is to address the issues of WiMAX time division duplex (TDD) technology sharing the 2.5 – 2.69 GHz band with frequency-division duplex (FDD) systems, such as UMTS, as well as legacy systems, such as multichannel multipoint distribution systems (MMDS). The topics that will be addressed are:

• Division of the 2.5 GHz band to FDD and TDD blocks according to ECC Decision (05)05;

• Interference scenarios and block boundaries;

• The importance and feasibility of block edge masks;

• Coexistence methodologies;

• Beamforming and MIMO;

• The role of restricted channels;

• Micro and pico base station deployment;

• Flexibility of the FDD and TDD block allocation;

• Border issues;

• Collocated vs. non-collocated base stations;

• Issues in the 3.5 GHz and 700 MHz frequency bands;

• Impact of wider bandwidths (10 and 20 MHz);

• Legacy systems (MMDS)
